I can heeeeeeeeeeeeeeear you. I can hear your breathing. Are you scared? Are you hoping that I will give up and go away? No no little one, that is exactly what I am NOT going to do. Was that a sob? I am almost certain it was. I am getting warmer aren’t I? Are you covering your mouth in an attempt to stay quiet? Oh baby girl, I can hear the sweat drip from your forehead onto the dusty floor. Are your eyes wide? Are you frantically moving your head back and forth trying to find a way out? I have news for you sunshine, there isn’t one.
I know I am speaking loud enough for you to hear me. This old building, with it’s empty rooms, and decayed floors carries sound rather well. It also makes it so you cannot tell from which direction I am moving toward you. Makes the game more interesting. Don’t you think so too my sweet play doll? Didn’t you like the pretty box I let you lay in until you woke up? I hope so, because when our game is done, you will be right back in it.
Oh my, someone took their patten leather shoes off. Didn’t they? Did me saying that make you stop dead in your tracks? I am sure it did. Would you like to know how I know that you abandoned not only your pretty shoes but those tiny little socks with the lace around the ankles? I can see your toe prints in the grime that is on the floor. Do you know what else I see? I see the trail you left for me to follow.
I’m getting closer, you know it, and I know it. Did you piss yourself yet? Do you feel those tiny hairs on the back of your neck rise up? Are you wanting your Mommy? Don’t worry sweet one, I am almost to you now. Some day your Mommy will see you again. She will shed tears just like you are shedding tears now. Only hers will be from sorrow, and soon…yours will be from pain.
